# The Map — Phnom Kulen illustrated atlas

Cartography and editorial composition, 6 November 2026. Three scales: region, plateau and principal sites. Orientation only; mapped paths do not establish access, opening, maintenance or suitability. No field verification or reconstructed cycling itinerary is claimed.

## Geographic sources and method

© [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright), [ODbL 1.0](https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/1-0/). [Geofabrik Cambodia](https://download.geofabrik.de/asia/cambodia.html), 3 November 2026, combined with the original Kulen Map Project's OSM Overpass extract for finer paths. The clipped database, including source IDs and relevant path tags, is available under ODbL as [geography.geojson](geography.geojson). It is not loaded by the map component.

Relief: [NASA SRTM](https://www.earthdata.nasa.gov/data/instruments/srtm), N13E103 and N13E104 from [AWS elevation tiles](https://s3.amazonaws.com/elevation-tiles-prod/skadi/N13/). Surface elevations include vegetation. A 40 m smoothing radius and restrained physical slope shading create the backdrop; forest and water polygons come from OSM. No decorative ridge or invented path is added. Contours: region 100 m, plateau 50 m, detail 20 m. Paper grain is a visual texture only.

Each raster and its interactive markers share the same Mercator frame. Raster dimensions preserve the projected aspect ratio. Source coverage is clipped to the union of all three frames, including the plateau's eastern edge. `manifest.json` records exact bounds, dimensions, source hashes and file hashes.

Path distinctions preserve OSM tags: poor visibility/impassable path (way 1053960960), steps (540513798), grade-3 track (1220172460), and bridges (540513797, 763533291). Geofabrik F/T and OSM no/yes bridge values are normalized before drawing. These are dated source descriptions, not current-condition guarantees.

The existing three editorial landmarks and their coordinates remain unchanged. The waterfall view distinguishes upper falls (OSM node 8635058459, 104.1056787 / 13.5674166, 01a) and lower falls (existing node 999293694, 104.1083175 / 13.569114, 01b), linking both to the same waterfall presentation. This adds no catalogue entry.

These are simplified editorial illustrations, not photographs or scale reconstructions. Transparent-margin trimming, proportional resizing and WebP encoding preserve their silhouettes.
