Tue21JulAsia Cine-Club: Dying to Survive (我不是药神) (2018) 🗓 Tuesday, July 21 | ⏰ Doors: 6PM | 🎬 Film: 8PM | 📍 TicTic, Phnom Penh Directed by Wen Muye, Dying to Survive became one of the most important and successful Chinese films of the 21st century. Inspired by real events, it follows a struggling shop owner who begins importing affordable generic medicine from India for patients suffering from chronic illness, placing him at the centre of a growing moral and legal dilemma. Combining humour, social commentary, and powerful human drama, the film sparked widespread discussion across China about healthcare, inequality, and access to life-saving medicine. Both critically acclaimed and hugely popular with audiences, Dying to Survive stands as a rare example of a socially conscious blockbuster that successfully balances entertainment with genuine emotional impact. “A stirring crowd-pleaser with a social conscience.” — The Hollywood Reporter “Funny, moving and unexpectedly powerful.” — Screen International 🎟 Free Entry & Popcorn – Arrive early for sofa, bed, or beanbag seating. 📽 IMDb: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7362036/ 📽 Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/film/dying-to-survive/
Tue21JulTuesday 21st July 6 pm EXPOSURE A Photography Exhibition by Darko Šarić Join us for the opening of EXPOSURE, a compelling exhibition by Croatian/German photographer Darko Šarić, whose work captures the fleeting beauty of everyday life through analogue film and vintage cameras. 🗓 Tuesday, 21 July 🕕 6:00 PM 📍 Meta House 🎟 Free Entrance Darko’s photographic journey began in childhood, inspired by his father’s slides and 8mm films. From his first 110 camera to mastering black-and-white film in the darkroom, his work reflects a deep devotion to preserving moments that are otherwise lost to time. “I take photos to document my life and the moments I see in the present, knowing that once a moment passes, it’s gone forever. Everything is fleeting and vanishes in an instant—life itself, and even the prints I make to freeze those moments. Nothing is permanent, and that is the beauty of life—and the beauty I want to capture.” Through EXPOSURE, Šarić invites viewers to reflect on impermanence, memory, and the quiet poetry of the present moment. We look forward to seeing you there.
