Most travellers can get a Cambodian tourist visa online in a few minutes, or on arrival at the airport. Here is exactly how it works.
The basics
Visa requirements, exemptions and eligible entry points depend on your passport and route. The official e-Visa portal is the source to check immediately before applying.
Recommended
Apply on the official government portal with a passport scan and a photo. The official tourist e-Visa fee is USD 30, processing normally takes 3 business days, and the permitted stay is one month. Check that your chosen entry point accepts it.

Visa-on-arrival availability and requirements depend on nationality and the open entry point. Confirm the current rule and official fee for your passport before travel rather than relying on an old screenshot or third-party agent.
Only use the official e-Visa site
The only official portal is evisa.gov.kh. Lookalike websites charge $50–90 for the same visa, or take your money for nothing. If the URL doesn’t end in .gov.kh, close it.
By passport
For the vast majority of visitors the answer is no: the standard tourist visa applies. Two groups are different, in opposite directions.
Visa-free
Citizens of the other ASEAN countries (Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei) enter visa-free under bilateral agreements. The permitted stay is not the same for everyone: 30 days for most, as little as 7 or 14 for some. Check the official exemption list for your passport before you count on a length.

Some passports require an embassy application or supporting documents. The eligibility list changes, so confirm it on the official portal before booking flights rather than relying on a hard-coded country list.

Cambodia replaced the paper arrival, customs and health forms with a free digital arrival card. Every traveller (including visa-on-arrival and e-Visa holders) must submit it.
Get the “Cambodia e-Arrival” app (iOS/Android) or fill the form at arrival.gov.kh. It is free: pay nothing to anyone for it.
You can complete it up to a week before landing. You’ll need your passport details, flight number and an address in Cambodia (your first hotel is fine).
Save a screenshot of the QR code: airport Wi-Fi can be slow. One submission per person, including children.
Check before booking
Extensions & long stays
The system is simple once you see the fork: the tourist visa extends exactly once, while the ordinary “E” visa is the door to every long-stay option.
Up to ~2 months
The 30-day tourist visa can be extended one time for another 30 days, easiest through a travel agency in Phnom Penh or Siem Reap (about $45–60, a few working days, your passport stays with the agency). After that you must exit the country.
Beyond 2 months
Ask for the ordinary visa ($35) on entry instead of the tourist one. It extends through agencies into longer permits, commonly 6 or 12 months tied to work or business (EB), retirement (ER), study (ES) or job-seeking (EG). This is the route every long-stayer and expat uses.
Don’t overstay
Overstaying costs $10 per day, payable at departure, and long overstays risk a ban. If you are close to the line, an agency extension is cheaper and calmer than the fine.
Arriving
Cambodia has three international airports and several land crossings. Accepted e-Visa ports and temporary closures change: check the live entry-point list when you apply and again before departure.

At land borders, pay only official fees
Use the official channel and published fee for your visa type. Politely refuse unexplained “express fees” and intermediaries who want to retain your passport.

The official tourist e-Visa (type T) fee is USD 30 on evisa.gov.kh. Verify any other arrival option and fee for your passport and entry point immediately before travel.
