After visiting the temples, a dance evening offers another way to encounter Khmer culture. Yet “Apsara show” can describe quite different programmes. Choose the format as carefully as the restaurant: how much attention the performance receives, how dinner is served and whether you will have time to watch.

What are you watching?

UNESCO describes Cambodia’s Royal Ballet as a classical court tradition, particularly recognisable through its gestures and costumes. This does not mean that every dinner show is a performance by the Royal Ballet.

Visitor programmes may combine classical dance, folk dances and other arts. Ask for the programme rather than treating every number as Apsara dance. The differences between scenes are part of the interest.

The Mansion at FCC Angkor: choose the setting, confirm the date

The Mansion is our first suggestion if you would like to pair cultural discovery with dinner at FCC Angkor. The restaurant and terrace offer a different setting from a large performance hall.

The official calendar lists “Morotak Vapatoa: A Dance of Heritage” on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 7.30 to 9 pm, starting at USD 49 net per diner. The programme combines Khmer classical and folk dances. Confirm availability and the menu when booking.

Ask when to arrive, where the dancers perform and which tables have a good view. A dinner reservation alone does not guarantee a show that night.

Kanell: an evening built around dinner and performance

Kanell combines Khmer dances and a Bokator demonstration in a garden setting. Dinner is served as a set menu rather than a buffet.

The website advertises arrival from 7 pm and a 7.30 pm performance. Its five-course menu starts at USD 29, with a 7% service charge added; drinks cost extra. Vegetarian menus are available.

This is a straightforward option for booking a complete evening. Mention allergies in advance and confirm the final bill. Plan your return journey for 9.30 pm or later and confirm the finishing time when booking: the FAQ and opening hours list 9.30 pm, while the evening outline mentions 9 pm.

Raffles: another option to consider

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor advertises a Saturday cultural dinner at Raffles Marquee. Confirm the programme and price for your date directly rather than relying on a third-party calendar.

Consider it if you want dinner to be an outing in its own right.

Making the most of the evening

Arrive before the performance, ask whether photographs are permitted and keep other tables’ sightlines clear. With children, choose a suitable dinner time and programme length.
