In Cambodia, two people can share a room, bus tickets are priced per passenger, and a private car can be shared by the group. It is easier to start with the cost of the whole trip for everyone travelling.
We have put together three sample budgets for 14 days and 13 nights: simple stays for two, a couple’s trip with more comfort, and a family holiday. The amounts are planning assumptions; adjust them using quotes for your chosen rooms and journeys.
Three budgets you can actually compare
All amounts are in US dollars, for the whole group. The family example covers two adults and two children sharing suitable accommodation. The food, transport and activity allowances include the children.

We have added 10% to leave a little room for an extra taxi, an outing you decide on while travelling or a room that costs more than expected.
Budget separately for international flights, visas and entry requirements, insurance and personal spending, including shopping, alcohol and medical costs. If you ask us to plan the trip, our fee is also separate.
Have a particular lodge, domestic flight or excursion in mind? Price it early. Those choices can make a real difference to the total.
The choices that change the bill
Count rooms as well as people. Two connecting rooms may change the family budget substantially. Ask whether the quoted price covers all guests, breakfast, taxes and any extra beds. Ask the hotel to confirm the beds available for your family.
Count transfers before choosing hotels. Our route guide helps identify the journeys. Add airport rides, local transport and the final connection to an island hotel. A cheap room on a different beach can be less convenient once the last transfer is included.
Make room for what you are looking forward to. If that is a guided day at Angkor or a few nights on an island, price it first. Then look for savings elsewhere.
Leave some time free. A coffee, a market visit or a walk by the river can make a lovely day without a full schedule of paid activities.
A useful Angkor example
Angkor Enterprise lists the standard one-day pass at $37 and three-day pass at $62. For two paying adults, that is $74 or $124 before transport and any guide. Children under 12 are exempt, with proof of age potentially required. Check the official tickets and age rules before buying; other sites and experiences can have separate charges.
This is why a family total is not automatically four times an adult budget. Some costs are shared, some depend on age, and some increase when a larger room or vehicle is needed.
Where we would simplify first
If the total feels too high, compare removing a stop with reducing the quality of every night. Fewer moves can remove a transfer and leave more time to enjoy a base. Next, choose the experiences you most want rather than paying for several similar ones.
