Choose 10 days for a focused trip with two or three main bases. Choose 14 days if you want to add an island stay or spend longer in the places you already chose. Four extra days are most useful when they create breathing room, rather than four more hotel changes.

Ten days usually means nine nights; fourteen days means thirteen. An overnight flight may change that count. Write down the nights you can actually spend in Cambodia before booking hotels.

A transfer is part of a travel day, not a gap between two full sightseeing days. Count checkout, reaching the departure point, waiting, the journey and getting to the next hotel. Use our transport guide and route connections to compare your options.
This example assumes arrival near Siem Reap and departure from Phnom Penh. It keeps the capital at the end, so the final night is close to the departure city.

The longer transfer between Siem Reap and Kampot is the trade-off. Check the services available for your dates; if that journey feels too long, keep Siem Reap and Phnom Penh as your two bases or change the route order. Do not book this outline before checking your flights and connections.
For Angkor, start with one, two or three temple days. You do not need to fill every morning with a sunrise or every afternoon with another temple. Compare how many nights to spend in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh before committing.
With thirteen nights, an example starting in Siem Reap and ending in Phnom Penh could look like this:

This is a relatively active route. If you dislike changing hotels, remove the island and extend your other stays. Alternatively, make the island your main southern stop and omit Kampot. Compare Cambodia’s islands before choosing a particular bay and accommodation.
We recommend keeping the final night on the mainland near your departure city when you have an international flight the next day. A ferry followed by a long road connection should not be the only way to catch that flight. Before booking, confirm the ferry schedule, pier and transfer to Phnom Penh, then check when you need to be at the airport.
Keep the decision simple: what will make each day enjoyable for your particular family? Choose one main outing, leave room for a rest and avoid stacking a long transfer with a demanding visit. A family that likes early starts will need a different itinerary from one travelling with children who need a quiet afternoon.
Before choosing a hotel, check the room layout, sleeping arrangements, access, meals and facilities you will actually use. Ask transport providers about the arrangements your group needs. A swimming pool or extra night can be more useful than adding another destination.
