Why Visit
Choeung Ek was an execution site associated with S-21 under the Khmer Rouge. Preserved as a memorial, it is one of the three Cambodian Memorial Sites on UNESCO's World Heritage List. A visit here complements the historical context presented at Tuol Sleng.
The location is outside central Phnom Penh, so arrange transport and your return journey before setting out. Treat the grounds as a place of mourning: remain on marked paths and follow instructions on site. The history can be emotionally demanding. Leave room in your day for reflection rather than scheduling a tight sequence of attractions.
