Angkor Wat ist der Hauptgrund für einen Besuch in Siem Reap und verdient einen ganzen Tag (idealerweise zwei. Doch die Stadt und ihr Umland bieten noch viel mehr: einen Zirkus, der Kunstausbildung finanziert, Seidenfarmen und Werkstätten, in denen ein Schal entsteht, schwimmende Dörfer auf dem Tonlé Sap und ruhige Fahrten übers Land, sobald die Reisebusse weg sind. Das ist unsere Auswahl dessen, was jenseits der Tempel wirklich lohnt) an einem tempelfreien Tag oder an einem Nachmittag, an dem man genug Reliefs gesehen hat. Wir setzen auf Erlebnisse von Menschen, die hier leben, bei denen das Geld in der Gemeinschaft bleibt, und lassen reine Foto-Gimmicks weg. Mehrere passen in einen halben Tag; ein paar sind bei Sonnenauf- oder -untergang am schönsten. Wo Vorbuchen zählt, sagen wir es. Manche Aktivitäten sind saisonal oder wetterabhängig – am Vortag bestätigen lohnt sich.
