Why Visit

Wat Ounalom is one of Phnom Penh's major Buddhist monasteries, beside the riverside district. Its position near the National Museum and Royal Palace makes it a natural stop on a central-city walk, while its religious role gives it a character quite different from a museum or monument.

Dress modestly and follow signs about shoes, photography and access to individual halls. Religious activities take precedence over sightseeing; ask before entering a space that appears to be in use. Explore at a respectful pace, then continue towards the museum or along Sisowath Quay. No fixed visiting timetable is claimed here because access can vary.
