Kratie and Koh Trong: should you add two nights to your Cambodia trip?
Plan Kratie, Kampi’s dolphins and Koh Trong: compare a town base, Soriyabori on the island and Le Relais de Chhlong, allowing time for travel.

Kratie deserves more than a stop between two long driving days. Come for the Mekong, a dolphin-watching outing and the slower pace of Koh Trong opposite the town. Two nights can create a worthwhile pause, provided you count the journeys before adding the stop.
Two nights generally give you one complete day between arrival and departure. We would keep it for an outing towards Kampi and time by the river, without promising to fit everything in.
North of Kratie, Kampi is the main dolphin-viewing location identified by Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism. These are wild animals: a trip does not guarantee close sightings or a particular photograph. Choose an approach that gives them space, without chasing or feeding.
Koh Trong also deserves time. If transfers occupy most of your arrival and departure days, an extra night helps keep the island from becoming a rushed stop.
Soriyabori, still associated with the name Rajabori Villas in some booking references, is an option for staying on the island. Its appeal is the chance to extend the Koh Trong experience beyond an excursion.
The crossing and final journey to the hotel are part of the stay. Let the property know when you will arrive and ask how luggage and pickup will work. River levels can affect arrangements at the landing.
Choose this base if you want to spend time on the island itself. If an early onward road journey is your priority, check how you will get back to Kratie first.
River Dolphin Hotel is an option to compare if you prefer staying on the mainland. Its official website describes a property with a pool, garden and restaurant, a short distance from the town centre.
We would consider it for road access and downtime at the hotel. Check the room category, exact location and transport needed for the places where you want to eat.
Le Relais de Chhlong occupies a 1916 riverside house with suites, a restaurant and a pool. It is worth considering when the hotel stay itself is part of the experience.
Chhlong is neither central Kratie nor Koh Trong. Treat it as a separate stop and arrange transport for excursions, rather than assuming all three bases are interchangeable.
Watch our reel about Le Relais de Chhlong for a look at the property before deciding.

We have not quoted room prices: compare the same dates, room category and included transfers. Before booking, read our Cambodia transport guide. Information checked on 6 November 2026.
We linked Chhlong, Kratie and the highlands on our Cambodia motorcycle loop. The story puts this stop into the context of a longer journey; it is not a current transport timetable.
