Mobile data makes the first journeys, bookings and messages to your hotel easier. Choosing a plan is not only about gigabytes: check how long it lasts, whether you need a local number and how you will activate it.
| Option | Main advantage | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Local physical SIM | A seller can help with installation | Phone compatibility, total cost, identification |
| Cambodian operator eSIM | No physical card to insert | Compatibility, registration, payment and activation |
| International travel eSIM | Can be bought before departure | Underlying network, data-only terms, top-ups and validity |
An eSIM is a format, not a promise of better prices or reception. A local plan and an international product may use the same network while offering different conditions.
Official pages checked on 6 November 2026:

| Smart Traveller Standard | 30 GB, 15 days | USD 5 |
| Smart Traveller Premium | 60 GB, 30 days | USD 10 |

These are published offers, not tested purchases. Check eligibility, any initial charges and the exact plan you are selecting. Cellcard also advertises a separate Traveller range, so one operator does not mean one price for every visitor.
Check Smart Traveller and Cellcard’s purchase portal directly before paying.
Check your exact phone model’s compatibility and whether it is locked to an operator. With an eSIM, installing the profile and starting the plan’s validity may be different steps. Follow the provider’s instructions rather than a blanket rule to activate before flying.
Save your hotel address and transfer booking offline. Even an eSIM can take time to activate, particularly if payment or identity checks need attention.
Have your passport ready for identification. Smart lists a Wi-Fi connection and valid identification among its eSIM purchase requirements. Do not assume that every advertised plan can be activated immediately using any foreign bank card.
Test the connection before leaving the counter and ask how to check your balance and top up. If you need to call a driver, check whether the package provides a local number and which calls are included. Follow the data-roaming instructions for the selected line and check charges on your usual home line separately.
Choose a connection you can activate and manage comfortably throughout the trip. A generous data allowance is less useful if it expires too soon or is difficult to renew.
Then prepare your essential Cambodia apps and payment options. We do not rank network coverage here: no comparative field test was carried out for this article.
